2018 Saints Hills Winery, Black, Middle And South Dalmatia, Croatia

A family boutique estate winery on steep slopes rising from the Adriatic Sea. Wines are made in collaboration with one of the world’s best enologists, Michell Rolland, a family friend. The Tolj family writes, “This old stone house used to be a winery, but its owners went on a quest for a better life over the ocean, leaving their winery to sleep for 80 years. We believe it was waiting for us to breathe in new life. We decided to leave the old stones untouched. They hold a story. In the stone and under the sun, life has not been easy for our ancestors, but wine has given them life, a chance for education, and opportunities, and has kept families together. Deep in the stony ground lie the roots of our love for life, our family, as well as for our wine.” The wine is medium ruby with notes of ripe dark fruit--figs, plums, and cherries. With mushrooms, chocolate, and vanilla. It’s dry, complex, full, and balanced.

2020 Alain Graillot "Syrocco" Syrah, Zenata, Morocco

100% Syrah

This is a new project from Northern Rhone-native winemaker, Alain Graillot, his sons Antoine and Maxime, and Jacques Poulain of Domaine Ouled Thaleb in Morocco. Alain had the idea to take his Northern Rhone style of Syrah and apply it to the gravelly terroir that he found while vacationing there. Everything in the vineyards is worked by hand and farmed organically. The wine is juicy and vibrant with an aromatic nose of dark and ripe blackberries, black currants, and dark plum, with exotic spice, fresh game, and delicate floral notes. It’s bone dry, with medium-plus supple and textured tannins, full body, and ample acidity to contribute a beautiful freshness and Old World elegance.

2017 Corliss, Secret Squirrel, Cabernet Sauvignon, Columbia Valley, Washington State

100% Cabernet Sauvignon

The Corliss family owns two premier Washington State wineries.  They are very particular and selective of which barrels go into their flagship wines, as the focus is on making very long-lived Cab blends.  Barrels of Cabernet Sauvignon that are full of fruit, soft and supple are blended after 14+ months in new and a little used French oak to become Secret Squirrel Cabernet. In the powerful 2017 vintage, this is a terrific value of a robust and fruit-filled example of Cabernet Sauvignon. Big blackberry and redcurrant fruit aromas and flavors pick up extra richness from notes of dark chocolate and oaky spice (22 months in very fine French oak). There's excellent richness and texture through the middle with the deep fruit and spice flavors flowing nicely across that finely tannic and fruit-driven finish.

2021 Yohan Lardy, Gamay Poppy, Beaujolais, France

100% Gamay Noir

Beaujolais a wine region in southern Burgundy, but in many ways millions of miles apart in terms of recognition, topography, soil, climate, winemaking style, and grape varieties. Here is where Gamay Noir finds its most suitable home. Yohan is the 5th generation to grow wine here. He started his estate with only 2 hectares of old vines, planted in 1911 and 1950. All of his vineyard work is done manually. His “Poppy” is made from 60-year-old vines planted at 100 meters elevation to soils of clay and limestone from the Beaujolais-Villages and Moulin-à-Vent appellations. It is a medium concentration of ruby with notes of juicy raspberries, cherries, cranberries, flower petals, and earth. It’s dry with medium body, medium-plus fine tannins, and mouthwatering acidity. Unfiltered and unfined. Only 200 cases made.

2020 Thymiopoulos Vineyards, Naoussa Xinomavro, Greece

100% Xinomavro

Thymiopoulos family has been grape-growing naturally and biodynamically for generations in the village of Trilofos in Macedonia Greece. While studying enology in 2005, Apostolos Thymiopoulos was the first to make estate wine from the family’s vineyards. Since then, he has devoted himself exclusively to Xinomavro, the emblematic variety of the Naoussa region. He produces ten different expressions to reveal every aspect of its potential. The grapes for this wine come from vineyard parcels 200-500 meters asl and are 27 years old. The wine is a medium concentration of ruby and aromatic with notes of ripe dark figs, raspberries, dark cherries, cranberries, wild herbs, fresh mushrooms, and hints of Turkish spice. It's bone dry and medium-bodied with medium+ tannins that will soften with decanting, and elevated acidity that keeps the wine lifted and expressive!

2020 Raul Perez, Ultreia, Saint Jacques, Bierzo, Spain

100% Mencia

Raúl Pérez is universally considered to be one of the world’s most visionary winemakers. Since he produced his first vintage for his family’s winery in 1994 at the age of 22, he has been at the forefront of the conversation about what has been called “The New Spain.” He grew up in Bierzo and is masterful with Mencia and is putting the region on the map! The wine has a medium+ concentration of ruby and is slightly hazy indicating it is unfiltered and unfined. It has a moderate intensity of aromas and beautifully integrated notes of dried strawberries, juicy cranberries, and blackberries with cloves, cinnamon, truffles, and cedar. It's savory and juicy with rich and fresh earth nuances that make you feel as if you were sitting on a patio in the summertime. It is dry, medium-bodied, with medium and soft tannins, and lifted acidity.
